the miocene fresh water deposit from tavers france

hello everyone

some pictures of an old deposit of ORLEANAIS tavers

the fossiliferous sands of ORLEANAIS in this region are just above the limestone of Beauce. age of this deposit is miocene and lot of fossils belonging to mammals group.

some of you who participate in is adventure will recognize some images.

digging of well which sometimes was reaching 6 meters...

the shovel and courage are needed to tackle this kind of work....

under the slab of clay we found five or six meters of sand . fossils are rare but usually complete.

manufacture of a formwork to avoid to be buried under the sand,the well is now digging up until the Beauce limestone layer.

the well is finally consolidate . serious things are going to start...

the work was on very narrow gallery in the sand...Was clearing all using buckets and ropes, it was not a solitary work but work all of a team of passionate people,he could stay several weeks on site. sometime we slepped on a gallery.

and finally...a beautiful gomphotherium tooth show up in the gallery....

a cry...a hand full of treasure... and another beautiful gomphotherium tooth (miocene elephant).

a tribute to mr Quatrehomme looking for pliopithecus teeth (back in the sediment.(there are no pliopithecus in miocene deposits of tavers)

he has never been an accident in tavers but as you see is a sandy environment,while the weight of sand and clay may at any time you fall on it ....i was young and many certainly a little inconscient.lot of interested persons by the fabulous discoveries came to join us,watching the hole and cryings tears....

the rest of the warrior on the heap of rubbish removed from the galleries, most of these pieces are now in museums such a jewel or in collections that will eventually al soon be day in the museum of Orleans or tours...

hello ,I thought that it was a remake of " rambo"
