Title: Chief Geologist, Africa Business Unit
IGE is looking for a Chief Geologist for its Africa Business Unit (BU).
IGE is an International exploration, development, and mining company with activities in Scandinavia, Angola, Kenya, and Burundi.
The core commodities of the company are nickel, gold, and diamonds.
The IGE Africa BU covers exploration and development activities in Kenya and Burundi, on a portfolio of about 1,500 km with projects for gold, nickel, uranium, and vanadium.
Current projects are in the various stages, from grass-root to pre-feasibility.

Summary:
In line with the company’s strategy, and in cooperation with the BU Manager, the Chief Geologist prepares and implements exploration programs and manages the BU’s exploration team (about 25 people including geologists, geophysicists, drillers, and other field staff), as well as contractors (consultants, engineering bureaus, drilling contractors).
Field exploration activities include remote sensing interpretation, stream sampling, regolith sampling, geophysics (IP, Mag, etc.), core and RC drilling, pitting and trenching, etc.
The Chief Geologist is also involved in business development and project generation in Kenya, Burundi, and other countries.
The company uses the Micromine exploration software
Duties:
- Reports to the BU Manager
- Manages the Kenya and Burundi exploration teams
- Prepares and oversees implementation of exploration programs and budgets
- Develops and manages the BU’s exploration database
- Implements and contributes to the company policies in terms of Environment, Safety, Ethics, CSR, and QA/QC
- Prepares mandatory reports to the Government (in English and in French), license applications, etc.
- Prepares reports on activities for the company management
- Identifies, sets up, and maintains working relationships with suitable external resources: contractors, consultants, suppliers, etc.
- Provides training to juniors, identifies training requirements
- Maintains network of relations with the government officials, other exploration and mining companies, etc.
Requirements:
English and French speaking (the candidate must be able to communicate and write reports in both languages)
Experience in exploration: 10 years minimum, at least 5 years in gold exploration, some experience with base metals
Degree in Geology (MSc in Geology or Exploration preferred)
Experience in Africa preferred
Proficiency in at least one exploration software package
Team leader and builder
Drive, ability to meet deadlines
Safety- and environment-conscious
Creative, solution finder
Good reporting and communication (written and verbal) skills
Strict implementation of QA/QC systems
Responsible and not averse to decision making
Conditions:
Salary negotiable depending on the candidate profile
The position is based in Nairobi, Kenya, with frequent travel to the field in Kenya, Burundi, and other African countries
